On November 5, 2019, Polenergia signed a contract for financing and contracts for the implementation of FW Szymankowo. Bank financing in the amount of PLN 107 million was obtained for the implementation of the investment. The project was financed by a consortium of banks that make up the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, mBank and ING Bank Śląski.
The Szymankowo WF is located in the Malbork poviat in the Miłoradz commune, in the area limited by the following towns: Gnojewo (from the north), Stara Kościelnica (from the east), Miłoradz (from the south-east) and Bystrze (from the west).
The nearest protected areas are the Natura 2000 Special Protection Area “Dolina Dolnej Wisły” (approx. 3.3 km to the west of the planned wind turbines), the Special Habitats Protection Area “Dolna Wisła” (approx. 3.3 km to the west) and Środkowożuławski Protected Landscape Area (approx. 3.3 km to the west); the farm will not significantly affect any of them. None of the wind turbines are located in a protected area, e.g. within the Natura 2000 network.
Thanks to the implementation of the project, it will be possible to avoid the emission of up to 104 thousand. tons of CO2, 98 tons of SO2, 99 tons of NOx, 35 tons of CO and 6 tons of dust. After the project was launched, the total capacity of Polenergia’s onshore wind farms increased by 15%.
On the part of the Group’s partners, contact persons will be appointed to whom any comments and questions regarding the construction and organization of works can be submitted.
In 2015 the Szymankowo Wind Farm project underwent the environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure conducted by the competent authority, i.e. the Mayor of Miłoradz commune. During the EIA procedure, the State Sanitary Inspector and the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection (RDOS) were consulted as required by the environmental protection law. The consultation procedure also allowed project stakeholders to participate. The procedure ended with issuing a decision on environmental conditions allowing for the construction of up to twenty wind turbines and the necessary infrastructure. The project was also granted a building permit for twenty wind turbines with the associated infrastructure. However, the company ultimately decided to build only eleven of the twenty turbines for which it obtained a building permit.
It is worth emphasizing that it will be the first wind farm in Poland, for which the decision to implement was not dependent on obtaining support - under the auction system or long-term contracts for the reception of electricity. Its construction shows that "green energy" is not expensive.
The company has selected Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy G132-3.45 MW wind turbines with the capacity of 3.45 MW each for the project. The parameters of the selected wind turbines are as follows:
Prior to the start of construction, in January 2020, training was held for all subcontractors involved in the construction process. The training pertained to occupational health and safety and environmental protection issues. It was also aimed at familiarizing subcontractors with the requirements of project financing institutions as well as Polenergia Group’s environmental and social policy and standards of conduct for Partners (vendors and subcontractors). The construction was regularly monitored by specialists (BIO EKSPERT) responsible for environmental supervision.
