Creation of honey-bearing flower meadows and setting up an apiary on the territory of Sulechów I PV Farm in Lubuskie Voivodeship are an example of taken measures to enhance biodiversity at Polenergia’s sites.
Due to technological reasons (row spacing, access roads), structures consisting of 30,000 photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of 8 MW occupy only half of the over 16 hectares of the Sulechów I investment area. That is why Polenergia decided to give back undeveloped land to nature and created there the so-called honey-bearing flower meadows, which are to serve pollinating insects, including bees. This will contribute to increasing the biodiversity of the monocultures of crops surrounding the investment, and colorful flowers will bloom on the farm throughout the growing season.
At the beginning of 2020, Polenergia established an apiary at Sulechów PV Farm consisting of 10 hives, which are looked after by qualified beekeepers. In February 2021, the first post-winter visit of beekeepers took place, during which it was observed that the bees survived the winter and showed no signs of disease. In addition to feeding the bees, beekeepers performed additional work, such as cleaning, insulation and disinfection.
