Polenergia’s involvement in the construction of local supply chains for the offshore power sector

The actions taken by the MFW Bałtyk I and MFW Bałtyk III projects in respect to the communication of impending procurement procedures are a good example of initiating relationships with domestic suppliers. The projects publish information on planned key tenders on dedicated websites and invite prospective Suppliers and Subsuppliers to meetings.

Moreover, in May 2021, the Company in a joint venture with Equinor announced the completion of the purchase of a plot of land in Łeba where a maintenance port for MFW Bałtyk I and MFW Bałtyk III will be developed. Therefore, the JV as the first among the companies executing offshore wind farm projects in Poland specified the location of their service and maintenance base.

Equinor is responsible for building and operating the port, which will become a base for offshore wind farms executed by the joint venture of Equinor and Polenergia and it may also support additional projects in the future.

The planned maintenance base will serve as a logistics center for offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea and it will consist of an office, storage buildings and cargo handling equipment. The close distance from Łeba to the wind farm sites will increase the safety of marine operations and optimize costs of operation. The investment located in Łeba creates opportunities for the development of the city and the region and for an increase in employment. The jobs needed to service offshore wind farms include, among others, technical staff to maintain offshore infrastructure and teams of office workers to support the onshore handling of the projects.
