Polenergia’s and Equinor’s offshore wind farms are development opportunity for local companies

The level of interest of Polish companies in participating in the development of offshore wind energy in the Baltic Sea exceeded our wildest expectations. Together with Equinor and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, we organized the Suppliers' Day in Gdańsk for domestic entrepreneurs. More than 100 entrepreneurs responded to the invitation to participate in this event.

The Supplier’s Day is another meeting with representatives of local companies that want to join the supply chain of offshore wind farm projects jointly implemented by the Polenergia Group and the Norwegian company Equinor in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea. At the same time, it was the first event that was entirely devoted to future cooperation with Polish companies in the field of wind farm turbines. The formula of the meeting, which was attended by representatives of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, the preferred supplier of wind turbines for the MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III projects, was aimed at increasing the chances of Polish suppliers to participate in both projects. The event was attended by over 100 companies representing various areas of production and services for the offshore sector, m.in. towers, steel structures, corrosion shields, design services.

Such meetings are intended to make it easier for Polish companies to enter the offshore market. They are a great opportunity for them to learn how to participate in our projects during the construction phase, as well as subsequent operation and service. For us, it is not only an opportunity to establish good relations with potential local suppliers of components and services and to discuss the possibility of possible future cooperation, but also an opportunity to implement our vision of sustainable modernization of the Polish economy.

Maciej Stryjecki

Director of Offshore Wind Energy at Polenergia

At the meeting, the most important information about both projects was presented, i.e. schedules for their implementation and rules of the procurement process. Detailed procurement packages, standards and requirements as well as sought-after innovations and competences were discussed. Entrepreneurs learned how they can apply and what formal conditions they must meet in order to engage the supply chain.

We are pleased with such a high turnout of Polish entrepreneurs who see the development of a new branch of the energy industry in Poland as an opportunity for their own sustainable development. This is a good omen for investments in the growing sector. We, on the other hand, want to maximally engage domestic suppliers and contractors. We want to cooperate not only with large nationwide companies, but also with small local businesses.

Bjørn Ivar Bergemo

Project Director of MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III from Equinor

In special thematic sessions, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy experts talked individually with suppliers about specific procurement packages. Cooperation with the world leader in the production of wind turbines is an opportunity for Polish companies to engage not only in domestic but also in global supply chains for offshore.

Poland already has experience and success in many segments of the supply chain, in particular in the field of electrical components or the production of steel structures. Components for wind turbines are another industry in which Polish suppliers can demonstrate their advantages – high technical preparation, flexibility, well-equipped production parks.

Tiago Duran

Sales Project Procurement Manager at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy

The development of offshore wind energy is a great opportunity for Polish companies. The new industry can become a development impulse for the whole economy, especially Pomerania, which will be a place of investment. It will create demand for products and services of domestic companies from many industries and thousands of new jobs.
