Catch the Big Fish!

Tens of thousands of specialists will be employed in offshore wind farm projects in the Baltic Sea. Employers who are looking for qualified staff presented students with a wide range of professional opportunities during the Offshore Career Day 2022 Catch the Big Fish! The stand of Polenergia and Equinor was visited by several hundred people interested in a career offshore.

The Offshore Career Day 2022 organized at the Gdańsk University of Technology was attended by more than a dozen companies operating in the offshore wind energy industry. Their stands were visited by several hundred students, graduates, and high school pupils interested in working in the developing industry. The students had the opportunity to talk directly with representatives of companies, deepen their knowledge about the expectations of the labor market, as well as take part in workshops on career counseling or the recruitment process. Polenergia and Equinor took the participants on a virtual journey offshore, showing them the functioning of wind farms up close via VR goggles.

Offshore wind energy is an opportunity not only for the energy transformation of Poland, but also for new jobs. The growing offshore wind energy industry in Poland will need tens of thousands of qualified employees with various specializations. Personnel will be needed not only during the construction phase but also to operate and service wind turbines in the Baltic Sea throughout the life of the wind farms. Creating jobs is a key way to ensure that our projects create lasting economic benefits in the local community

Michał Kołodziejczyk

President of the Management Board of Equinor Polska

Already in 2019, Polenergia and Equinor started cooperation with the Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology of the Gdańsk University of Technology, which educates future employees of the offshore wind energy sector. Experts from both companies conducted classes with postgraduate students, providing them with practical knowledge on the development of energy projects in the Baltic Sea.

We are pleased that young people are so interested in pursuing a career in the offshore sector. Building adequate staff is one of the main conditions for the success of our investments. Offshore wind farm projects offer great opportunities for skills development in many directions. Specialists will be needed in many fields: from the design of offshore and hydrotechnical structures and project management, through environmental law, maritime law, occupational health and safety, to production and service.
