History

Polenergia is the first Polish private energy group consisting of vertically integrated companies operating in the area of energy generation using renewable and gas sources and the distribution of and trade in electricity. The group was formed in the process of consolidating two asset groups controlled by Kulczyk Holding: Polish Energy Partners S.A. (focused on production of electricity from wind farms) and the Polenergia Group (focused on generation, distribution, sale of and trading in electricity and certificates of origin, and development of new energy generation projects). In May 2005, Polish Energy Partners SA made its debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Following the consolidation of the Polenergia Group and Polish Energy Partners SA, PEP SA’s shares have been quoted as Polenergia SA since 2014.

The values that define
Polenergia include:

  • Passion

    to change our environment for the better

  • Accountability

    in transparent and accurate performance of our obligations

  • Leadership

    in setting new standards on the energy market

  • Self-Improvement

    to ensure the top quality of all our undertakings

  • Ambition

    to always set the bar high for ourselves

The business of the Group includes the following key areas:

  • energy generation in onshore wind farms and photovoltaic farms;
  • development of three offshore wind farm projects in the Baltic Sea;
  • gas and clean fuel, including hydrogen technologies;
  • distribution and electromobility;
  • rading and sales;

The new directions of the Group’s strategic growth include: energy storage, energy recovery from other products, other innovations in the energy sector and expansion to international markets.

Currently, the Group’s activity covers the whole territory of Poland, with the emphasis on locations with the greatest energy potential, i.e. above-average wind conditions (in the case of wind farms) or solar conditions (in the case of photovoltaic power plants) and relatively low costs of connection, as well as, in the case of energy trading, certain international markets.

Modern energy production based on renewable energy sources cannot exist without the development of the domestic supply chain of machinery, materials and services. This is why Polenergia supports the cutting-edge solutions in the area of generation, distribution and trading in energy, using domestic and local contractors and suppliers. The development of Polenergia contributes to the economic growth of Poland and the region and will have a permanent, positive impact for the future generations.

Polenergia Group’s experience in building the national energy market

For 25 years now, Polenergia has been the leader and pioneer of transformation on the energy market. It is the first energy group in Poland, which has been effectively implementing the development strategy based on its own, state-of-the-art energy sources. Zero-emission assets in the onshore wind farm and photovoltaics segments are balanced with efficient low-emission gas-fired co-generation.

We are one of the largest producers of energy from onshore wind farms in Poland. Until the first wind turbines in the Baltic sea are launched, this segment of our activity will remain the main source of clean, green energy that we supply to our clients in accordance with the Energy 2051 standard.

Our first wind farm, located in Puck and comprising eleven turbines, was commissioned in 2007. Since then, we have completed a total of 13 investments in this area. With the completion of our thirteenth wind project – the Grabowo Wind Farm – we added 44 MW to our wind project portfolio.

Building on our experience in the wind energy segment, Polenergia has successfully established a strong position in the photovoltaic sector. In 2019, we commissioned our first large-scale photovoltaic farms in Sulechów, with a combined capacity of 8 MW. In 2025, the Group commissioned Szprotawa I and Szprotawa II, the largest photovoltaic farms in its portfolio to date, with a combined capacity of 67 MW. This directly contributed to increasing the share of renewable energy in Poland’s energy mix. In 2025, the Group also commenced construction of the 35 MW Rajkowy Photovoltaic Farm, which is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026.

Polenergia’s portfolio currently comprises 13 wind farms and 8 photovoltaic farms, with a combined capacity of 642 MW.

Since 2010, the Group’s companies have been developing three offshore wind projects located in the Baltic Sea: Bałtyk 1, Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3. In 2018, Polenergia entered into a partnership with Equinor for the joint development of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects. In December 2019, the Group signed an agreement to cooperate on the development of the Bałtyk 1 project. The combined maximum capacity of the offshore projects developed by the Group’s companies is 3,000 MW.

In 2021, the President of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) granted the right to cover the negative balance under the so-called Contract for Difference (CfD). This provides a guaranteed price for electricity generated by an offshore wind farm and fed into the grid, at a level not exceeding the amount specified by the Minister of Climate and Environment in the regulation of 30 March 2021, i.e. PLN 319.6 per MWh. The support granted was an important step towards the development of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects, which were thereby included in the first phase of offshore wind development in Poland.

Once operational, the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 wind farms will be capable of generating enough electricity to meet the annual needs of more than 2 million households. The first electricity from the projects is expected to be generated in 2027, with full commissioning of the wind farms scheduled for 2028.

Polenergia’s expertise extends beyond the development and generation of renewable energy to include energy trading and distribution, as well as the development of new technologies. By bringing together the knowledge and experience of all Group companies, Polenergia can effectively manage the entire value chain – from energy generation to sales – while accurately anticipating developments in the energy market and optimising the Group’s operations.

Polenergia Dystrybucja is an electricity distributor and supplier serving industrial, residential and commercial customers, including housing estates, manufacturing plants, office buildings and shopping centres. The company operates across several regions of Poland. Polenergia Dystrybucja is the largest independent distribution network operator in Poland. Only four state-owned companies and E.ON operate on a larger scale. It is also the second-largest distribution system operator in Warsaw.

As part of its entry into the e-mobility market, the Group, through its dedicated Polenergia eMobility company and companies serving end customers – Polenergia Dystrybucja and Polenergia Sprzedaż – has introduced a comprehensive offering for both individual and business customers. The offering includes not only charging infrastructure, but, above all, electricity generated from solar and wind power for charging vehicles.

Energy trading and sales within the Polenergia Group are managed by Polenergia Obrót. Polenergia Obrót specialises in wholesale electricity and gas trading, supporting companies within the Group while also providing market access to external entities. The company supplies energy to a broad range of end customers. Although primarily focused on the Polish market, it also operates internationally.

In 2021, Polenergia Sprzedaż developed a unique product concept based entirely on renewable energy. The offering is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises as well as individual customers. Under the Energia 2051 energy supply offering, customers are guaranteed exclusively green energy generated from renewable sources in Poland. In 2025, Polenergia Sprzedaż was incorporated into the structures of Polenergia Obrót.

The Polenergia Group’s portfolio also previously included operating and development-stage gas projects, including power plants and combined heat and power plants fuelled by natural gas and coke-oven gas. These assets are no longer part of the Group’s portfolio, as Polenergia now focuses exclusively on renewable energy sources. Polenergia has also redefined its business profile and discontinued its microgeneration services for individual customers (prosumers).

Today, the Group focuses on the development and operation of large-scale photovoltaic and wind projects. Its wind projects are developed both onshore and offshore in the Baltic Sea. More information about the offshore wind projects is available on the dedicated website: Wind farms in the Baltic Sea
