Polenergia Is the Only Polish Energy Company with Emissions Reduction Targets Validated by SBTi

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated the Polenergia Group’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, confirming that they are aligned with scientific criteria and a decarbonisation pathway appropriate for the energy sector. Polenergia is currently the only Polish energy company whose climate targets have undergone this validation process.

Science-Based Climate Targets

The Science Based Targets initiative is an international initiative that develops standards and guidance to help companies set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets based on the latest scientific knowledge and climate mitigation objectives. SBTi validation assesses whether a company’s targets meet established criteria and align with recognised emissions reduction pathways.

Setting emissions reduction targets is not just a matter of making commitments for us. Above all, it reflects our strategic and responsible approach to the energy transition. SBTi validation confirms that our targets have been assessed against recognised scientific criteria. The key priority now is to consistently implement the measures needed to achieve the planned reductions.

Concrete Emissions Reduction Targets for 2030

By 2030, Polenergia aims to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% compared with 2025 levels. This commitment covers all emissions within these scopes. For Scope 3, the Group aims to reduce emissions associated with the electricity it sells by 56.2%, using the Power Sectoral Decarbonisation Approach (Power SDA). In addition, it plans to reduce emissions intensity by 51.6%, using the Physical Intensity method.

The next step will be to develop a Decarbonisation Plan setting out the measures needed to achieve these targets. Polenergia will also report annually on its emissions and progress towards reducing them in its Sustainability Report. After five years, progress against the commitments will be assessed as part of the SBTi process.
