Playing green in Nowa Sarzyna

Under the project Graj z nami w zielone!®, schools can hold environmental competitions, with prizes for the winners being funded by Polenergia. Each school can organise a competition according to its own plan or idea, depending on what the teachers want to focus on at the time. In some cases, the entire municipality is involved in the organisation of environmental competitions. And such was the case at the turn of April and May this year in the municipality of Nowa Sarzyna, where our Group’s CHP plant is located.

In cooperation with Nowa Sarzyna Town and Municipality Office, Polenergia organised the environmental competition Graj z nami w zielone!®. Eight primary schools and four kindergartens were invited to participate in this competition and to play green together with Polenergia. Younger students and kindergarteners were asked to prepare posters illustrating how to take care of the environment. Students from grades 4 to 8 were asked to make a video showing how we can contribute to climate protection or how to educate our families and friends about the need to act to protect the climate.

We received many works. All of them were beautiful and noteworthy, in particular the videos prepared by the older students. However, as is the case with any competition, we had to be consistent and, together with the Town and Municipality Office, award the top three prizes in each category, as stipulated in the regulations. As the task was extremely difficult, we also took the liberty of awarding distinctions.

The award ceremony took place at a special time and place for the town and municipality of Nowa Sarzyna, in Kołacznia Nature Reserve, where Poland’s only yellow azalea grows, during the municipality’s Azalea Blossom Days. Polenergia, which cares equally about the environment and biodiversity, declared to take action, together with UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre, for the benefit of the nature reserve in Nowa Sarzyna. We are planning to mitigate the impact of black cherry shrubs and black locust tree on the azalea. The works will also include the removal of blackberry and blackthorn bushes.

We are happy that the activities under the project Graj z nami w zielone!® are attracting such a large group of young people, who present extremely valuable ideas with regard to climate protection. We are also proud that, in addition to raising awareness, we can carry out such activities as the ones in Kołacznia Nature Reserve.
