Bee Day in Sulechów

Bee Day in Sulechów

Around 80 students from local primary schools took part in Bee Day organized by the Polenergia Group at the Sulechów Photovoltaic Farm. This event, combining education and fun, provided an opportunity to learn more about these ecologically beneficial insects, as well as to deepen knowledge about biodiversity and green energy. The day was filled with attractions, including workshops on entomology, renewable energy sources, and beekeeping. Bee Day in Sulechów is part of the Play Green with Us!® educational program aimed at schools and kindergartens—a unique Polenergia initiative designed to raise climate awareness among students.

It’s no coincidence that we’re celebrating Bee Day right here in Sulechów. We not only have a solar farm that produces clean energy from the sun, but also our very own ‘photovoltaic’ apiary located on-site. It consists of 10 beehives, which in the summer can be home to hundreds of thousands of bees. By meeting with students, we want to share knowledge about biodiversity, environmental protection, and the role of renewable energy in a way that is engaging, unique, and above all—hands-on. We care about staying close to local communities—as a good neighbor who, in working toward a better climate, also genuinely supports local development.

Marta Porzuczek

Director of the Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Department at Polenergia Group

As part of the Play Green with Us!® program, Polenergia works with educational institutions to carry out a wide range of environmental activities, increasing students’ awareness of climate change. The project is implemented in municipalities where the Group develops its photovoltaic and wind farms.

The foundation of effective education lies in student engagement, personal experience, knowledge, skills, and the commitment of educators. Combined with positive emotions, this creates a perfect recipe for success. That’s exactly what we experience during the activities organized by Polenergia. I am convinced that educational initiatives like ‘Bee Day’ help us all feel a sense of community—united in understanding climate phenomena and in taking action to prevent environmental degradation.

We encourage you to watch the video from the event: Bee Day in Sulechów.

The Sulechów Photovoltaic Farm, owned by Polenergia, is not only a source of green renewable energy—it’s also home to over half a million bees living in ten hives and a several-hectare wildflower meadow rich in nectar-producing plants. This biologically diverse area provides both habitat and food for managed honeybees as well as wild pollinators. Research conducted on the site has identified 39 species of wild bees. The presence of these pollinators has been confirmed through entomological studies carried out by researchers from the University of Zielona Góra.

In the face of biodiversity loss, investment areas such as photovoltaic farms — when properly managed — can serve as substitute habitats for many animal species. A great example of green space management that supports fauna is the Sulechów Photovoltaic Farm Complex. For the past three years, the University of Zielona Góra has been working with Polenergia to study how these farm areas are inhabited by wildlife, and to explore ways to make even better use of green spaces for environmental protection. As a result of this successful collaboration, we published the book ‘Green Potential. Photovoltaics as an example of renewable energy supporting biodiversity’, which presents the findings of a two-year study conducted at the Sulechów Photovoltaic Farm Complex.
