At one with nature. Nature Explorers as part of the Play Green with Us!® programme

In the spring of 2026, a series of educational workshops entitled Nature Trackers was held in primary schools and kindergartens across the municipalities of Sulechów and Niegosławice (the area of Polenergia’s renewable energy projects FF Sulechów and FW Mycielin). The initiative was carried out as part of Polenergia’s educational programme Play Green with Us!® The workshops were led by Antoni Białek, a graduate of the University of Zielona Góra and representative of EcoConsilium Nature Consultancy.

A total of 407 children and young people took part in the programme, including 277 primary school students and 130 preschool children. The programme involved nine primary schools and two kindergartens, with a total of 24 teaching hours of classes and workshops delivered, including outdoor field activities.

During the sessions, children explored the natural world in an active and engaging way. The programme included workshops on pollinators, Poland’s amphibians and reptiles, invasive species, and birds found in agricultural and urban landscapes, as well as outdoor lessons and educational games. Students had the opportunity not only to gain knowledge but also to use specialist equipment for observing insects, take part in nature exploration activities, and discover local ecosystems directly in the field.

As an educator, I wanted children not only to listen to stories about nature, but to truly see it, touch it and discover it for themselves. For me, the greatest value of these workshops was the children’s engagement, curiosity and joy in learning about animals, plants and local ecosystems through practical experience.

Antoni Białek

who led the workshops

One of the programme’s key strengths was the adaptation of workshop topics to the age of participants and the specific needs of individual educational institutions. Teachers noted that the workshops aligned well with the school curriculum while also providing an engaging complement to everyday school and preschool education. Outdoor activities proved particularly popular, giving children the opportunity to observe nature firsthand and learn through experience.

At one of the participating institutions, Kindergarten No. 5 in Sulechów, a bat box was donated as part of the nature-focused activities and installed on the kindergarten grounds. Such initiatives not only expand children’s knowledge but also strengthen their connection with the surrounding environment and encourage greater awareness of nature’s needs.

At Polenergia, we believe that environmental education has a real impact on shaping the attitudes of younger generations. The Play Green with Us!® programme is our way of building lasting relationships with local communities and supporting children in discovering nature, understanding its importance and developing a sense of responsibility for the environment.

Marta Porzuczek

Director of the Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Department and ESG Coordinator at Polenergia S.A.

The Nature Trackers series demonstrated that environmental education can successfully combine learning, play and direct contact with nature. Thanks to the cooperation between Polenergia and local schools and kindergartens, children from the municipalities of Sulechów and Niegosławice were able to nurture their curiosity about the world, gain practical knowledge and learn how important it is to care for the natural environment.

We would like to thank Antoni Białek for his cooperation, as well as the teachers and headteachers of the schools and kindergartens involved in the Play Green with Us!® programme for their trust and commitment.
