Mowing for Biodiversity in the Landscape Park “Przemkowski Park Krajobrazowy”

In August, the Polenergia Group, together with TELE-FONIKA Kable, carried out the mowing of 30 hectares of meadows and reed beds in the Landscape Park “Przemkowski Park Krajobrazowy”, thereby supporting the protection of the area’s biodiversity. This initiative is part of the Biodiversity Strategy and represents an element of Polenergia’s local engagement, accompanying the launch of the nearby Szprotawa Photovoltaic Farm.

For many years, the Polenergia Group has been actively involved in initiatives that support biodiversity conservation and the development of local communities. The Biodiversity Strategy forms an integral part of the Group’s responsible business approach, combining energy transition with the protection of the natural environment.

The latest example of implementing this strategy is the mowing of 30 hectares of meadow and reed habitats within the Landscape Park “Przemkowski Park Krajobrazowy”, located in the ecological site known as “Przemkowskie Bagno.” The mowing took place in August as part of a joint local engagement effort by Polenergia and TELE-FONIKA Kable, accompanying the commissioning of Polenergia’s latest photovoltaic investment – the Szprotawa Photovoltaic Farm.

This initiative, carried out in cooperation with the Lower Silesian Landscape Parks Team and a local agricultural farm, plays an essential role in maintaining the proper condition of natural habitats and protecting valuable species. Regular mowing helps limit the spread of shrubs and single-species habitats, supporting the preservation of a rich composition of meadow plants, which serve as nesting grounds for many bird species.

This partnership illustrates how business objectives can be effectively combined with social and environmental responsibility. TELE-FONIKA Kable, as a global cable supplier — including for the Szprotawa Photovoltaic Farm and high- and extra-high-voltage cables for the Baltic 2 and Baltic 3 offshore wind farms — actively supports the green energy transition. Its participation in the energy sector supply chain demonstrates that industry growth can go hand in hand with caring for ecologically valuable local areas.

In August, the Polenergia Group commissioned its largest photovoltaic farm to date — the Szprotawa Solar Power Plant with a total capacity of 67 MW. The installation will be able to supply green energy to approximately 35,000 households, increasing Polenergia’s total installed renewable energy capacity in onshore sources to 642 MW. Located in the Lubusz Voivodeship, the investment cost exceeded PLN 150 million.

Why the Landscape Park “Przemkowski Park Krajobrazowy”?

As part of the Lower Silesian Landscape Parks Team, the “Przemkowski Park Krajobrazowy” is one of the most ecologically valuable areas of Lower Silesia. Its unique mosaic of ecosystems includes wet meadows, peat bogs, heathlands, dunes, and pine forests. The park also contains four nature reserves: “Stawy Przemkowskie”, “Buczyna Piotrowicka”, “Łęgi Źródliskowe”, and “Torfowisko Borówki”.

Of particular importance is the “Stawy Przemkowskie” Reserve, which is listed as a wetland of international significance under the Ramsar Convention. It is a site of exceptional value for water and marsh birds and plays a key role in preserving biodiversity on a European scale.

Mowing in the Landscape Park “Przemkowski Park Krajobrazowy” contributes to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
  • Adapting to and protecting the environment in the face of climate change.
  • Fostering cooperation between businesses, public institutions, and local suppliers.
