By 2030, wind farms with a capacity of nearly 6 GW are to be built in the Baltic Sea. In the next 10 years, this capacity will increase to 11 GW. Among the planned investments are three projects carried out jointly by Poland Polenergia and Norway Equinor: MFW Bałtyk I, MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III. The total capacity of these three projects is 3 GW, which will allow to supply up to 4 million Polish households with renewable and clean energy per year.
The meeting with the inhabitants of towns in the municipalities of Ustka and Słupsk mainly concerned investments related to the removal of power from wind farms and the schedule for the implementation of the MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III projects. During the meeting, representatives of both companies provided information on the route of the cable exporting energy from offshore power plants. They also answered questions from residents and landowners with whom transmission easement agreements are concluded.
The two most advanced projects currently underway by Polenergia and Equinor, the Bałtyk II and the Bałtyk III offshore wind farm, will be located near Łeba, approximately 22 and 37 km from the coast. Their construction is planned to start in 2024, and the first electricity supplies in 2027. Both power plants will be connected to the Słupsk-Wierzbięcino substation of the Polish Power Grid. The third power plant, MFW Bałtyk I, which is scheduled to be commissioned in seven years' time, will be built about 81 km from the coast near Łeba. It will be connected to the National Power System at the Krzemienica substation.
