Mycielin Wind Farm

The Mycielin Wind Farm is located near Mycielin, Gościelin, Gościeszowice, Długie, Dzikowice and Sucha Dolna, in Niegosławice and Szprotawa communes, Żagań county, Lubuskie Voivodeship. It was built in 2015 and obtained an occupancy permit in February 2016.

The Mycielin Wind Farm consists of 23 VESTAS V110 2.0 MW turbines with the tower height of 125 m and rotor diameter of 110 m. The total installed capacity of the facility is 46 MW. The farm’s operator is Polenergia Farma Wiatrowa Mycielin Sp. z o.o., a special purpose vehicle wholly owned by Polenergia S.A.

Initially the Mycielin Wind Farm consisted of 24 wind turbines, but following a failure in April 2017 the EW3 turbine was dismantled.

After commissioning, post-completion monitoring of the impact of operating turbines on birds and bats is carried out in all wind farms. The results of the three-year research program, in line with industry practices and environmental decisions, are sent to the competent authorities as well as to the municipalities where the projects are located. In the case of WF Mycielin, no negative impact on the study of animal species was found.

All emissions are subject to environmental supervision and are covered by appropriate sector permits and agreements. This applies to acoustic emissions, electromagnetic fields as well as waste management by own service and external services as well as water and sewage management.

In 2020, no penalties were imposed on the company, and no inspection took place at its premises.

In 2016, ornithological and chiropterological research began, in line with the scope of post-completion monitoring agreed with the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Gorzów Wielkopolski. The annual observation report was submitted to RDOŚ in 2017. The RDOŚ did not comment on the methodology used and the method of monitoring, and accepting the results obtained in the first research year, emphasized that the obtained mortality levels for birds of prey and the entire avifauna complex are relatively low, far from the threshold values ​​established on the basis of the pre-implementation monitoring. The next cycle of tests started in April 2018 and lasted until the end of March 2019. On July 24, 2019, the Director of RDOŚ in Gorzów Wielkopolski approved the submitted monitoring reports, confirming compliance with the requirements of the environmental decision and indicating that there is no need to apply additional minimization measures. The last, third year of research started in April 2020 and will end in April 2021, covering the entire phenological cycle.

Taking into account the results of the ornithological inventory carried out in the 2018/2019 season, indicating the nesting of the red kite at a distance of about 450 m from the turbine (EW22), an additional analysis module was introduced for post-construction monitoring. The year 2019 did not show the re-occupation of the nest found in the 2018/2019 season by the red kite. The inspections at the wind farm did not reveal any collisions between the representatives of this species from the beginning of the monitoring (April 2019). The red kite observations will be repeated as part of the last test cycle (2020/2021).

FW Mycielin was put into operation in the first quarter of 2016. Pursuant to the environmental decision, post-construction noise measurements were carried out in August, September and November 2016. The measurements were made by a certified subcontractor EKO-POMIAR. On the basis of the obtained results, no exceedances were noted, both during the day and at night. The results of the above acoustic analysis were submitted to the competent authorities, i.e. the Voivodship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection (WIOŚ) and the Commune Office in Szprotawa in December 2016. There were no comments from the Provincial Inspectorate of Environmental Protection or the local community about the results, and no complaints were brought from the local community about the noise. Moreover, there was no need to implement any additional noise reduction program
